Counselling
Counselling is the process of providing support to a person who is working through specific personal challenges, a major transition or interpersonal conflict, so they can obtain desired outcomes. Counsellors listen, without judgement, and give practical guidance to help create effective coping skills. You may find ways to change patterns that are no longer working for you or find new solutions to old problems.
Struggling with how to get along with your newly independent child? We can be a sounding board for exploring new communication styles. Overwhelmed at work after a big promotion? Let’s talk through problem-solving strategies. Mourning a loss? We will walk with you through the grief process. Whatever the challenges, along the way you will likely gain valuable insight into your thoughts and behaviours and increase your general well-being and overall mental health.

Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy uses established methods (called modalities) to identify and address the root causes of a problem. These techniques include different types of “therapies,” such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing (MI). Unlike counselling, psychotherapy is often related to a diagnosable mental health issue, such as anxiety, depression, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and is usually a longer and more in-depth process. But it doesn’t have to be.
The main point is that the process can lead to significant changes in how you perceive the world and lead to deeper personal transformation.

Relationship/Couples Counselling
Relationship Counselling, such as couples counselling, is a type of therapy that focuses on supporting people to improve their romantic relationships. Working with a counsellor, people can explore issues in their relationship, improve communication, and resolve conflicts.
Although relationship counselling is often used to address problems, it can also be helpful at any stage of a relationship. People in healthy, happy partnerships can still benefit from therapy that strengthens communication and connection.

Walk & Talk or Out-of-Office
Walk&Talk Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates walking while addressing therapeutic goals and topics. Some of the activities we might participate in include walking on sidewalks or trails or exploring public parks and other open spaces. The focus of the experience is therapy, not exercise.
Similarly, ‘Out of Office’ Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that takes place seated someplace other than the therapist’s office. Some of the places we might visit include public parks, open spaces, coffee shops or public buildings such as libraries.

Psychiatric Referral
We are also members of the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration – a system of care whereby your therapist works cooperatively with psychiatrists and family doctors, providing timely access to the mental health services you may need.
