What We Offer

We accept and direct bill to most private insurance companies, as well as the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program. We are committed to finding ways to provide accessible services for everyone, and offer sliding scale billing for eligible clients. Please contact us for more information.

We are also members of the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration – a system of care whereby your therapist works cooperatively with psychiatrists and family doctors, providing timely access to the mental health services you may need.

Still not sure if this is for you? No problem – we can figure that out together during our time working together. Sometimes it can be a mixture of a few different kinds of therapies or sessions. The only thing you need to bring with you is your curiosity and an openness to change.

Our Approach

Humour and Curiosity

Regardless of the process, meaningful change is hard. We intentionally bring curiosity and a sense of humour to lighten the load along the way. Keeping our minds open and our curiosity engaged, our job is to make it as uncomplicated and transparent as possible. And to help you feel able to do the hard work one step at a time. We love our work, but it can be difficult for both client and counsellor – sharing a gentle joke or an “aha!” moment together helps remind us of the valuable and courageous people at the heart of the process.

Inclusion

We meet you where you’re at right now – whoever and wherever you are. Maybe you’ve been to various therapists over the years, and nothing really “clicked,” or maybe this is your very first experience with the process. Our priority is providing a safer, non-judgemental, and trauma-informed setting. We are committed to mental health promotion both in our sessions and in all our communities, and for us, this means a commitment to humility, continuing professional education, and ongoing self-reflection. We believe that mental health is a human right that all people are entitled to and use all our knowledge, skills, and abilities to enhance the well-being of everyone we serve. Have trouble sitting still? Feeling isolated? Try our “Walk-and-Talk” Sessions that bring the conversation out into the world! Want to include a family member from elsewhere in the province into your session? We can set up a virtual group session for you. We work to provide accessible services for everyone and offer sliding scale billing for eligible clients without access to private or third-party insurance coverage.

Collaboration

This isn’t a “one size fits all” process. Instead, what’s key is the “therapeutic relationship” – that’s therapy lingo for the right fit between client and counsellor. While the method of therapy is important, this one-to-one relationship is the foundation of all the work we do together. You participate as a partner in therapy tailored to address your unique experiences, needs, and objectives. We work together as a collaborative team: amongst our counsellors, alongside you in sessions, and by helping to coordinate a larger “team” of support for you. Sometimes this means connecting you with local resources or organizations. And sometimes this means connecting you with other health care professionals, such as your family doctor or a psychologist or psychiatrist. We add players to your team that will build on the work we do together.

Reconciliation and Decolonization

We recognize the resilience and enduring strength of the Indigenous people who have taken care of this land and its waters, skies, and creatures since time immemorial. As settlers and newcomers to this territory, we commit to learning the stories and history of this land so we can better fulfill our roles as treaty people and active decolonizers. We believe strongly that mental health is a basic human right. Through our work with Indigenous clients, we are privileged to bear witness to this legacy. In acknowledging the past harms and ongoing effects of genocidal colonialism, we actively seek to be of service to people and communities in roles they define for us.

One More Thing

As part of our commitment to mental health promotion, we try to practice “digital mindfulness.” There is a mountain of evidence – both firsthand experience and research – that being flooded with tech is part of the problem for many people. Reading this on a website may seem hypocritical, but we believe in the appropriate and mindful use of technology. We need our website for you to find and communicate with us, our booking platform for you to make an appointment that is convenient, and our telemedicine provider if you are seeing us virtually. We aren’t on social media, and we won’t fill your inbox with newsletters, inspiring quotations or advertising links (even if you ask us sweetly). We want to keep it as uncomplicated for you as possible.
